My Very Expensive Plumbing Mistake

Take experts’ recommendations, and don’t make the same mistake I did.

Today I want to talk about a big mistake I made in 2009 when my wife and I were looking for a rental property. We found a modest two-bedroom, one-bathroom property in Denver. We put in an offer, and it was accepted.

We had it fully inspected, and the results were reasonable. However, the inspectors suggested that we have a sewer line repair company look at the connection to the home. I said that I’d look since I've seen a lot of sewer scopes. I decided that it was fine. A couple of years later, I had to replace a 10-foot length of pipe because that connection had started failing inside and outside the home. We had to reinforce and rebuild part of the foundation because the home was so old.

That was a very expensive lesson learned, so we always advise our clients that if there is a recommendation to bring in a specialist, they should go ahead and do that.
